Accessibility Services

You can learn at this school — in the way that fits you. Whether you are blind, deaf, hard of hearing, or learning to sign, there is a real way in here, with buttons that take you there. Pick your way:

Home Accessibility Services Library

1 · Learn by Listening — if you are blind or learn best by hearing

Every lesson in this school is written in real text, and real text can be read out loud. Our Listening Path reads lessons to you, right here in your browser — no account, nothing to install.

How it works here

  1. Open the Listening Path with the button below.
  2. Choose a lesson from the list.
  3. Press Play. The school reads the lesson out loud. Pause, go back, or stop whenever you want.
  4. Follow the same path for every lesson — the list holds the whole library.

Watch: how learning by listening works here (about a minute, captioned).

Open the Listening Path

Works with your own aids: this page and every lesson are real text with real headings, so your own screen reader (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack) reads them line by line. The Listening Path is there for times you would rather just press Play.

2 · Learn by Seeing — if you are deaf or hard of hearing

Nothing in this school is sound-only. Every lesson stands on the page in words and pictures, and every video in Accessibility Services carries captions you can turn on.

How it works here

  1. Open any lesson from the Library — the whole lesson is there in text and pictures. Nothing is hidden inside sound.
  2. When a video appears in these services, press the CC button on the video to read everything that is said.
  3. The Sign Language Course below is fully visual — it was made to be learned by watching.

Watch: how learning by seeing works here (about a minute, captioned — it is made to be understood with the sound off).

Open the Seeing Path Go to the Library

Works with your own aids: use your device's own caption settings, text size, and contrast — every page here is real text that respects them. Nothing important is ever carried by sound alone.

3 · Sign Language — learn to sign, and learn by signing

Learn sign language so you can talk with deaf friends you meet in the world. If a deaf friend joins your class or your street, your hands will know how to say hello.

How it works here

  1. Open the Sign Language Course with the button below — it stands in this school like every other course.
  2. Work through seven short lessons: the alphabet, greetings, everyday words, family, questions, help words, and first sentences.
  3. Each sign is shown and told three ways: the handshape, where it goes, and how it moves — with a line to help you remember it.
  4. Every lesson ends with Try It — sign it yourself, with your own hands. That is how hands learn.

Watch: the Sign Language Course being used (about a minute, captioned).

Open the Sign Language Course

Works with your own aids: the course is fully visual and written in real text, so it works with your caption settings, your text size, and your screen reader. For deaf students: the Seeing Path above is your way through every lesson in this school. For hearing students: this course is for you too — it exists so you can talk with deaf people you meet.

4 · Learn by Touch — braille

Braille readers learn here two ways: your own refreshable braille display can read every page in this school, because every page is real text — and if you are learning braille itself, our Braille Path teaches the code, cell by cell.

How it works here

  1. Open the Braille Path with the button below.
  2. Learn the alphabet cell by cell — tap a cell to hear its letter spoken.
  3. Type any word into the Braille Writer and see it in braille, letter by letter.
  4. Print the braille alphabet sheet to learn by touch on paper.
  5. For lessons: connect your refreshable braille display and read any page in this school, line by line.

Watch: how braille learning works here (about a minute, captioned).

Open the Braille Path

Works with your own aids: your refreshable braille display reads these pages directly — the words are real text, never pictures of words. Nothing important in this school lives only inside an image; where a picture teaches, its words travel with it.
